APC Asks Jibrin To Stop Talking About Budget Padding Scandal

In a letter addressed to Mr. Jibrin dated August 4, 2016, Senator Lawal Shuaibu, APC Deputy National Chairman of the North, expressed disappointment and ‘embarrassment’ that the APC has had to 'deal with' a budget padding scandal.

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Abdulmuminin Jibrin to stop making public statements regarding the budget padding scandal that has rocked the House of Representatives.

In a letter addressed to Mr. Jibrin dated August 4, 2016, Senator Lawal Shuaibu, APC Deputy National Chairman of the North, expressed disappointment and ‘embarrassment’ that the APC has had to 'deal with' a budget padding scandal. Mr. Shuaibu requested, on behalf of the APC National Working Committee, that Mr. Jibrin ‘avoid issuing any public statement’ on the scandal.

Mr. Jibrin has been at the center of a controversy surrounding the 2016 budget after he accused Speaker of the House Yakubu Dogara and three other House officials of allocating N40 billion to themselves in the budget. Mr. Dogara subsequently announced that he had removed Mr. Jibrin from his position as Appropriations Chairperson. Mr. Jibrin, however, maintained that he had stepped down from his position voluntarily.
