The lecturers are also complaining about the total neglect and abandonment of the school by the present government of the embattled Governor Olusegun Mimiko.
They have, however, written to Mr. Mimiko to express their grievances over the dilapidated condition of the institution.
SaharaReporters correspondent obtained the letter titled “A Duty Of Care” in Akure.
These lecturers who are under the auspices of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) have lamented the “unfavorable working condition’ at the school.”
Its Chairman, Temidayo Temola, and Secretary, Oluwafemi Olowokanga jointly signed the letter sent to the Governor’s office.
They expressed fear that the ‘technological institution’ created to serve as a veritable platform for creating the needed middle-level manpower for the youth is now on the ‘verge of degradation’.
“The University has been running one faculty (Faculty of Science) since it was inaugurated for academic activities by your Excellency in 2010,” the letter read.
“Sir, years after, the University still glorifies itself with one faculty. Other Universities established after such as Kwara State University, University of Osun etc can boast of more than four faculties with different architectural masterpiece.
“University is a place where universal knowledge is expected to be derived. We, therefore, wonder what universal knowledge one can get in one Faculty University.
“It is on note that contractors handling different project has left project site since 2011 while some appear later to disappear.
“The level of infrastructural decay in the campus is not only alarming but need an urgent intervention. It is in record that the university has not taken a capital grant since 2013.
“The delay in release of subvention for recurrent expenditure has put a stop to snail motion the university is experiencing.
“As we write, the staff and students of the university are at home for over two months due to non-payment of salaries and unfavorable working condition,” they disclosed in the letter.
These same scholars are now asking the government of Mr. Mimiko to do the needful by releasing substantive and enough funds for the rapid development of the institution.
“Consider, support and release funds for the expansion of the university from one faculty to at least three as proposed in the last admission exercise.
“Release, outstanding subvention of the university and at least quarterly release of subvention. Monthly release of subvention to institution of higher learning is belittling.
“Mobilize contractors back to site especially those handling the road linking the gate of the university to the main campus,” they told the governor.
