Panic Grips Over Bombing Of The Isoko Development Union Secretariat

Panic has gripped the entire Isoko area of Delta State following the bombing of the Isoko Development Union (IDU) secretariat in the early hours of Friday morning.

IDU is the parental umbrella body of the Isoko nation in Nigeria and in the diaspora.

The well bombing came only a few hours before the union's annual general conference and awards ceremony slated for Friday at the secretariat. The explosion destroyed property and valuables worth millions of naira, according to sources with knowledge of the incident.

No person or group has claimed responsibility for the bombing at the time of publication.

In a telephone chat with SaharaReporters, the IDU President General Iduh Amadhe described the act as unfortunate saying that those behind the dastardly act shall not go unpunished.

Mr. Amadhe said, "through my life’s work, and the work of other individuals, sons and daughters of Isoko nation and non-Isokos, the secretariat was built. But some disgruntled elements came at the early hours of Friday, when we were supposed to be holding our annual general conference, and bombed the Isoko house. But in all, I give God all the glory because the event still went successfully as planned. But those behind the act shall not go unpunished."

Reacting to the incident, the Chairman of the Isoko South Local Government, Itiako Malik Ikpokpo condemned the bombing of the Isoko house and assured the people of Isoko the safety of lives and property and go about their normal duty without any panic.

Mr. Ikpokpo described the attack as “a cowardly and a futile attempt to distract the focus and dedicated executive of the IDU.”

As at the time of this report no suspects have been announced an no arrests have been made.
