Ondo Police Identify, Remand ‘Killer Cop’ Who Shot Cyclist Dead In Omifon

The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has identified the disgruntled police officer who shot a commercial motorcyclist, otherwise known as “Okada Rider”, at Omifon axis of Ore in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

Femi Joseph, the Spokesman for the Police Command, disclosed this to SaharaReporters on Thursday night in a telephone chat.

Mr. Joseph identified the killer cop as 54 year old Anthony Nwadike, a police inspector in the Ore Divisional Police Station.

He revealed that Mr. Nwadike “misfired” and negligently shot dead the commercial motorcyclist who was later identified as Sunday Joseph at Omifon in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

Mr. Sunday Joseph was age 48 until his death, our reporter learned.

Mr. Joseph disclosed to our correspondent that Inspector Nwadike has been charged and arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting at Oke Eda in Akure for killing a motorcyclist during duty.

He narrated how the killer Inspector of police fled the scene with other junior officers and abandoned the police van on the main road after the incident.

According to him, the policeman has been charged to court and subsequently remanded in the prison.

“On Sunday, it was reported that a policeman shot one of the motorcyclist in Odigbo and we swung into action by arresting the suspect.

“We have charged to court and the Magistrate has remanded him as investigations into the matter still continue” the spokesman said.

SaharaReporters obtained some section of the charge sheet from the court that read “you Nwadike Anthony 54 yrs, on 4th Sept, 2016 about 6.pm at Omifon, Ondo-Ore road in Ondo Magisterial District did kill one Sunday Joseph, aged 48, by shooting him with rifle in the stomach resulting to his death”.

However, in her ruling Magistrate Victoria Bob-Manuel ordered the culprit to be remanded at the Olokuta Meduim Prison on Ondo road Akure.

Mrs. Bob-Manuel adjourned the case till October 12th, 2016.

Some whistleblowers told SaharaReporters that the deceased was in company of other two friends on a motorbike had a serious altercation with the leader of the police team, Mr. Nwadike, at the Omifon police check point.

“It was a serious argument because the police officer was asking them for money and before we knew what was going on he (Nwadike) had already fired shot and we saw blood on the ground with the dead body” one of the sources said.

Several police sources also confirmed to SaharaReporters that a delegation of senior police officer have personally visited the family of the deceased.
