Buhari Says His Wife Belongs In His Kitchen, Bedroom Following Her Critical Remarks Against Him

October 14, 2016

President Muhammadu Buhari today declared that his wife, Aisha Buhari, “belongs to my kitchen and my living room and the other room” following some critical remarks she made to BBC Hausa about him. Mr. Buhari was standing next to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, one of the most powerful heads of state in Europe, when he made the disparaging remarks about his wife.

Mr. Buhari travelled to Germany this week on state business and was there when details broke about what Mrs. Buhari said about him to BBC.

Mr. Buhari also speculated that “I don’t know which party my wife belongs to” and said that he has “superior knowledge over her” on all things political because he ran for president several times before finally winning in 2015.

While Mr. Buhari did not explicitly use the work ‘bedroom’, it is obvious that he was referring to that room, and perhaps marital activities that go on in it, given the context of his remarks.

Mrs. Buhari told BBC Hausa that her husband government has been hijacked by a “few people” who were responsible for shaping his administration. She speculated that he did not know most of the appointees, according to a transcript of the video obtained by SaharaReporters.

She also called into question her support for him if he runs for president again, saying that her support is on the condition that he performs his duties well.

News about the controversial BBC Hausa interview began trickling out this week when it was discovered that the presidency was trying to pressure the BBC to not publish the interview.
