Ogun State workers suspended their two-week strike after meeting with State government officials in Abeokuta on Wednesday, according to a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) report.

The meeting between stakeholders commenced at the office of Governor Ibikunle Amosun at 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning and culminated in the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two parties at 6 p.m. The agreement stipulated that the State government would pay workers their deductions owed to them every 90 days. According to the agreement, all outstanding deductions would be paid to workers by May 2017.

The government also agreed to offset one-year arrears of check-off dues and to offset outstanding gratuities with payments of N200m every other month starting in November 2016.

The stakeholders also agreed to establish a joint committee with representatives from both organized labor and government that would submit a report on the issues of the Contributory Pension Scheme in 90 days. Similarly, it was agreed that representatives from labor and government would meet quarterly in order to improve government-labor relations.

After signing the agreement, Mr. Amosun hailed the civil servants, saying they were among "the best in the country."

It would be recalled that Ogun State civil servants began a strike on October 20 to protest the non-remittance of 12 months’ deductions from workers’ salaries, among other grievances.
