November 15, 2016

Unidentified gunmen, on Monday,  kidnapped a 72-year old retired school principal, Mr. Sunday Festus, at his residence in Bomo clan,  Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
Mr. Leighe Festus, son of the abducted retiree,  said in Yenagoa on Tuesday that his father is diabetic and was critically ill  at time of kidnap.

According to him, the four-man kidnap gang, at about 3:26 am Monday,  broke the metal protector on the door of his father's house and forced him out  into a waiting double 75 horsepower speedboat.

The younger Festus added that the kidnappers dragged his father on the ground to the waterside, as they shot into the air to scare members of the community from coming out to rescue the victim.
The victim's son explained that after  abducting his father, the gang headed towards Opuama community and at Oyeregbene, they attempted to steal an engine boat. They later got hold of a surveillance patrol gun boat, with which they escaped from the security patrol on the waterway.

When contacted, the Bayelsa Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Buswat Asinim, said he was on leave.
