The Story Of A Crook Posing As SaharaReporters' Correspondent In Abuja

November 15, 2016

A crooked journalist, who goes around claiming to be an employee of SaharaReporters, has been exposed.  The fake correspondent operates with the pseudonym "Demola Ijaiye". His real name, however, is Lateef Taiwo Bamgbose. He is an English graduate of the  Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He reportedly started his journalism career in 1988 in Kaduna State, where he was widely known for using documents to extort money from public officials.Bamgbose's phone number is 08034519527.

His victims, said sources, have included Senator Ahmed Makarfi, a former governor of Kaduna State. Senator Makarfi according to people knowledgeable about his operations, Bamgbose blackmailed Markafi  when he was Commissioner of Finance and Economic Planning. He also duped another high-profile victim, former Vice President Namadi Sambo.

In 2003, Mr. Bamgbose relocated to Abuja, following his involvement in a major blackmail scheme that almost claimed his life.

However, he continued his dubious scheme in Abuja, where he has been arrested many times by the Directorate of State Services. In 2014, he was arrested and detained for weeks by the Nigeria Police for blackmail.

He recently attempted to pull his trick on a director in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture by posing as a SaharaReporters' correspondent with the name "Demola Ijaiye." He claimed to be investigating allegations against the director, which are contained in a document handed over to him by Mr. Inuwa Bwala.

SaharaReporters investigators trailed Bamgbose to the waiting area of an Abuja official where his photo was taken while he waited to execute his latest scheme.
