Troops attached to 1 Division of the Nigerian Army have ramped up clearance operations against armed bandits and cattle rustlers in Zamafara State as part of Operation Sharan Daji.

According to a press release issued by Colonel Sani Usman on Thursday, troops killed 9 armed bandits and livestock rustlers within the past three days. They also destroyed the bandits' and rustlers' camps and motorcycles in Bungudu and Maru Local Government Areas.

The soldiers also arrested two suspected armed bandits: Awidi Mohammed and Mummuni Mohammed. They also recovered 292 cows, 44 rams, and 17 donkeys from the livestock rustlers, who had stolen the animals.

An additional suspect, Abdullahi Abubakar, was later arrested and is believed to be an accomplice of a notorious bandit named Buharin Daji.

While the 1 Division has intensified its efforts to rid Zamfara State of illegal activities, it is also engaged in peace talks with relevant stakeholders in the region. According to Mr. Usman, cooperative cattle rustlers have provided valuable information to the Division and the Zamfara State government.
