Late NYSC Member Ifedolapo: Osun State Government Sets Up Investigation Panel.

January 6, 2017

After about one month of silence, the Government of Osun State has finally set up a committee to investigate the circumstances leading to the death of Ifedolapo Oladepo, an Osun State indigene Corps member who died in Kano NYSC Orientation Camp on November 29, 2016. The Panel was headed by the State's Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, and also in the committee are other 8 members. A campaign group called CFDF Campagn Group had earlier submitted a petition to the Osun State House of Assembly to investigate the case.

The Panel on Wednesday 4th January 2017 invited the father of the deceased Mr Wale Oladepo to give them his picture of the whole incident. Mr Oladepo reiterated the fact that his late daughter never harboured any ailment whatsoever before leaving home. “What reasonable father will send his sick child to such distance and weather? No, Dolapo never had any ailment, she was never on any regular medication, she has never complained of any health issue in almost a year she’s been with me at home waiting for her NYSC mobilization. Dolapo was hale and healthy”, Mr Wale Oladepo stated.

The agonizing father said further, “All Corps members are under obligation to undergo some NYSC-prescribed medical examinations prior to going to Camp, which is submitted to NYSC itself. We have a copy of the tests results, and nothing in it poses any underlying health issues with Ifedolapo. So, I wonder the spin-story NYSC is telling. My daughter was very healthy before going to Camp. She participated in the drills and activities on Friday, Saturday and Sunday without any complaint. Why does any reasonable medical personnel or NYSC Camp officials think she’s pretending on Monday?”

Also invited by the State Panel was the Registrar of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Ogbomoso, where Ifedolapo graduated from with a First Class Honours Degree in Transport Management. The Registrar furnished the Panel with a clean record of health, and that Ifedolapo visited the School Clinic just once in her seven years stay in the school.

Earlier on, the family of the deceased has accused NYSC Kano of negligence in handling the health of Ifedolapo. As much as they denied negligence, NYSC had initially released a report four days after the incident that Ifedolapo was battling with an undisclosed ailment before coming to Camp in Kano. They further reported that she had Urinary Tract Infection and she died of Acute Kidney Infection.
