A wonderful musical evening named ‘Guru Pranam-2017, i.e. Pandit Kamal Mallick Memorial Indian Classical Music Programme organized by ‘Charukeshi’ held on 5th March in ‘Jogesh Mime Academy’, Kolkata. This magical evening of Hindustani Classical Music was stepped on by Mr. Dipanjan Kanjilal of Gwalior gharana by Raag- Bhimpalashi, “Karam karo more sai” in vilambit ektaal and “Ja re apne mandirwa ja” in Teentaal. Then the atmosphere was melodized by sitarist Mrs. Soma Bhandari with her wonderful presentation of Raag- Puriya-Dhaneshree. Her wonderful ‘Alaap’ and ‘Jhankar’ successfully created a peaceful atmosphere. After that it was the time, for which all were eagerly waiting, i.e. the performance of Sangeet Ratna Dr. Sinchan Das. He performed two rare Ragas of Indian Classical Music, i.e. Raag- Pushpa (“Guru ke Charana Dharo Man Mero” in vilambit ektaal and “Par na payo guru bin” in Teen taal) and Raag- Mayuri (“Nachat Mayuri” on ektaal, 12 beats). His powerful voice and breathless taankari has successfully created a heavenly atmosphere and more of all his unique ‘Taantrikari’ was sufficient enough to draw the entire attention towards him. His god gifted melodious tonal quality and exceptional delivery of the swars truly define the mastery over the each and every aspect of the ragas. He was accompanied by Mr. Sanjoy Adhikary in tabla, Mr. Debanjan Adhikary in Harmonium (Debanjan Adhikary is the grandson of Surasagar Prasad Mukhopadhyay, the father of Bengali khyal and disciple of Sangeet Ratna Dr. Sinchan Das), Mrs. Susmita Das and Koyel Sen on Taanpura. Lastly the stage was waiting for the Jugalbandi of Sarode by the grandsons of Pandit Kamal Mallick, i.e. Mr. Rupak Dey and Swarnavo Mallick. They performed Raag- Rageshree in a mannerly and organized way. The appearance and beautified strokes of Mr. Dey was successfully took the audience into that memory of golden melody of the great sarode maestro Pandit Kamal Mallick. Swarnava Mallick has the potentiality to become a complete sarodiya but need more taalim.
