A woman crashed her vehicle into a police cruiser on U.S. Capitol Hill grounds in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday morning.

The incident began at 9:30 a.m., when a driver near the U.S. Botanic Garden struck a Capitol Police cruiser and proceeded to drive towards officers.

Police then fired shots at the driver and proceeded to arrest her. She is now in police custody.

Police said there are no indications that the incident was a terrorist attack and that no one was struck by the bullets fired.

The director of communications for the U.S. Capitol Police, Eva Malecki, said that investigations are underway.

She said the incident “appears to be criminal with no nexus to terrorism” and that the perpetrator likely had “no sense of motive.”

Ms. Malecki disclosed that while the U.S. Botanic Garden has been temporarily locked down, the U.S. Capitol remains open.
