This was made known in a statement signed by Major-General E.J Enenche, Director of Defence Information.

In compliance with the presidential directive handed to them, the statement said, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin, on Tuesday, met with the Chief of Army Staff, Major-General TY Buratai; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar; Theatre Commander and senior principal staff officers of the Military High Command.

The meeting resulted in a briefing on the new strategic direction and operational plans envisaged to provide greater impetus to military operations in the North-East. According to the statement, the Defence Headquarters appealed to the general public and people in the areas most affected by terrorism and other forms of criminality to henceforth volunteer information capable of assisting security agencies in tackling the menace.

Information required, explained the Defence Headquarters, including locations of terrorists' sleeper cells, areas of concentration and outposts, collaborators and informants as well as suspicious dwellings in rural and urban areas.

The Defence Headquarters added that the country's Armed Forces place enormous value on the provision of useful information by the general public, especially people at the epicenter of the crisis, and vowed to restore peace to the North-East.
