Singer and actress, Selena Gomez, 25, revealed on Instagram Thursday that she recently took a step back from the spotlight to focus on recovering and getting her health together after having a necessary kidney transplant due to her battle with lupus.

Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease that occurs when your body's immune system attacks your tissues and organs. Inflammation caused by lupus can affect many different body systems — including your joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart, and lungs.

In Miss. Gomez's case, her lupus damaged her kidneys to the point that she had to get a transplant.

Mrs. Gomez shared a photo of, revealing that her donor was her best friend, 29-year-old actress, Francia Raisa.

In the photo, the ladies held hands from their hospital beds.

“There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa,” said Gomez.

“She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much, sis.”

Miss Raisa shared back in 2013, that she met Selena six years ago when child stars from Disney and Disney affiliated shows visited a children's hospital.

“Selena and I were in the same group and we just clicked,” Miss Raisa said.

Since then the duo has remained friends over the years.
