Ondo Court Remands Thugs To Prison Who Beat Up 72 Year Old Retired Soldier Into A Coma

Both men - Ologunmeta Akinwumi, and Folusho Falodun were dragged to court on Tuesday by the police in Ondo State.

Sahara Reporters had reported how some thugs beat up Pa Adebayo into a coma in one of his landed property at the Oshinle Quarters in Akure.

It was gathered that the hoodlums are the errand boys to the popular notorious Akure thug, Mr. Ade Fayehun otherwise known as "Ade Basket".

Our correspondent learned from a police source that both Akinwumi and Falodun were among the thugs that led a squad to molest the retired old soldier.

The source said that the other members of the squad have taken to their heels in order to evade police arrest over on the case.

Meanwhile, the duo was slammed with two counts charge of conspiracy and an attempt to murder when arraigned in the magistrate court on Tuesday.

The charge sheet obtained by a Sahara Reporters correspondent in Akure read below:

"That you Ologunmeta Akinwumi, M, Folusho Falodun, M, and others at large on the 26th January, 2018 at about 5:10 at Irowo Street, Akure in the Akure magisterial district did conspire with one another to commit felony to wit attempted murder and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 516 of the criminal code cap 37 Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006

"That you Ologunmeta Akinwumi, Folusho Falodun, and others at large on the same date, place and time in the aforementioned magisterial district did attempt to kill one Ilesanmi Adebayo by beating him with a stick into a coma, and inflicted injury on his head and thereby commit an offence contrary to and punishable under section 320 (1) of the criminal code cap 37 Vol. 1 Laws of Ondo state of Nigeria, 2006."

Martins Olowofeso, a police prosecutor disclosed that six witnesses are ready to testify on the evil action of the two men at the magistrate court.

Olowofeso explained how these wanted thugs treated the old man before he was beaten mercilessly and into a coma.

He, however, pleaded with the court to fix a fresh date in order to access the health status of the retired soldier who had since been admitted to the hospital.

Adelanke Akinrata, the defence counsel said the two men are still suspects until proven otherwise and guilty.

Mr. Akinrata therefore begged the court to grant his clients bail with a promise not to jump any condition attached to it.

Kehinde Aladeduntire, the Counsel to the Complaint said the court should look thoroughly into the criminal case before granting any bail condition.

Mr. Aladeduntire added that some of the suspects have started threatening those families of the victim to drop the case or face more damning actions.

"My Lord, I want this honorable court to consider the critical state of the old man and dispense justice accordingly as we pray case shouldn't turn into a murder."

Victoria Bob-Manuel, Chief Magistrate of the court refused to grant the plea of the defense counsel and immediately asked the suspects be remanded in the prison.

Mrs. Bob-Manuel said the court will take the application of concerning the plea of the counsel and adjourned the case till 21st of February 2017.
