Isoko Youths Protest Against AGIP Oil Company Over Unemployment, Local Content Act

Our correspondent learned that the peaceful protest which lasted over three hours, forced staff of the company scampering for safety as they shot down operation immediately they sighted the youths advancing towards the company

Isoko youths numbering over a hundred under the umbrella of the Isoko National Youth Assembly, (INYA), Thursday protested against the management of Agip Oil Company, at Oleh, headquarters of Isoko South local government area of Delta state over what they called nonchalant posture of the company towards the development of the land. 

The placard carrying youths with the inscriptions such as "Agip Give Our Youths Employment",  "Agip We Deserve Scholarship", "Agip Give Us Our Dues", "Enough Is Enough", "Agip Stop Been Hostile To Your Host", "Agip Respect The Local Content Law", who were led by the President of the INYA, Ovie Umuakpo, SaharaReporters learned stormed the office of the oil company in Oleh as early as 7:00am in the morning and disrupted the official activities of  the company.

The youths it was gathered, demanded among other things to include employment opportunities for the Isoko Youths, replication of Bonny Island electrification magic in Isoko land from Agip, total adherence to the local content act and Scholarship and empowerment programmes for the Isoko youths.

Addressing the youths, a representative of the Agip Oil Company, who identified himself as Napoleon, from the Public Affairs/ Community Relations Department of the company from its Kwale office, appealed for calm and assured the youths of the company's readiness to address their grievances.
