Three times African footballer of the year, Abedi Pele has been appointed alongside 4 others to run the Ghana football association, following corruption allegation against the former association head Kwesi Nyantakyi.

This was disclosed in a statement released by Ghana’s government on Wednesday June 13 2018

Pele’s appointment is coming after the high court of Ghana granted a request from attorney general Gloria Akuffo to suspend the Ghana Foothball association and its officials.

Other appointees to join Pele in running the Ghana FA includes businessman Kofi Amoah and the president of the Ghana League Clubs Association Cudjoe Fianoo, Osei Kofi, who played for Ghana in the 1960s now serves as a church minister.

It will be recalled that the former head of GFA, was accused of requesting $11 million from reporters posing as investors to secure government contract.

Nyantakyi, who was a senior member of the sport’s world governing body FIFA and regional equivalent the Confederation of African Football, has since stepped down.

Pointing out the need to sanitize the country’s football federation, the country’s information minster Mustapha Abdul-Hamid had last week said that the documentary highlighted “widespread fraud, corruption and bribery” at the GFA.
