Humanitarian Situation Looms In Adamawa As Measles Hit IDP Camp In Mayo Belwa LG Adamawa State, Northeast, Nigeria

An internally Displaced persons' camp in Adamawa State, consisting of mainly women and children has been hit by an outbreak of measles, a child killer disease.

The IDP camp in Mayobelwa is one of the three camps hosting over 5000 displaced persons following last week's clash between herders and farming communities on the borderline of Adamawa and Taraba States.

The temporary IDP camps which sprouted in Mayobelwa, Mayofaran and Gorobi, all in Mayo Belwa local Government area of Adamawa State, presents a pathetic and emergency situation.

These IDPs who are mostly women and children fled their villages which have either been burnt or sacked by their aggressors in attacks and counter attacks between herders and farmers in their localities.

More disturbing at this point is the reported case of an outbreak of measles and how it's being managed according to a Red Cross official.

However, concerns have been raised over how government presence seem to be lacking at the Gorobi camp, although politicians  have leveraged on the situation by providing relief materials.

For the locals, government should consider their plight an emergency one.
