So After Giving Saraki Lap Dance, Buhari Sends Police After Him? By Fredrick Nwabufo

Politics in Nigeria is dangerous. Though it has evolved over the years‎, it is still imbued with a suffusion of Stalinism.

At one point, assassination characterised our politics. The brutal murder of Funsho Williams comes to‎ mind.  No doubt, a damning feature of our politics during the administration of President Obasanjo was political assassination, wedded with intimidation and harassment of opponents.

Also, under President Jonathan, there were blips of intimidation and harassment of political opponents, but President Buhari ‎has taken this violation to a tyrannical stratosphere. In fact, Buhari has perfected a new feature in our politics - framing of political opponents.

A few weeks ago, the president balked at having a meeting with Senate President Bukola Saraki and his associates, who are at the exit door of the APC. That was Buhari in his own skin. But what changed? Because he later asked for the meeting, where he made exorbitant promises to this bruised group, all to keep them in the party.

A source within the APC hierarchy told me that the president was informed of the mammoth implications of their exit‎. And that he was startled; so he staged an 'erotica' to appease them.

The source said Saraki and other wronged APC chieftains did not take the president's bait‎, which set off the plot for a clamp-down.

Is it not surprising that the Offa robbery case has suddenly received oomph? Saraki cannot be above the law; he should be prosecuted if found complicit in the crime. But it is compellingly obvious that the present case has a tapestry of politics just like that of CCT.

This morning, the convoy of the Senate president was blocked by the police, in an attempt to arrest him.

I understand the plot is to scuttle the‎ defection attempt of some APC senators who have planned to make a show at the Senate today.

As you read these lines, the house of Ike Ekweremadu, deputy senate president, has also been surrounded by security agents.

The legislature under siege!

My real concern is our democracy. We are destroying what we got on a slab of blood and bones, all because of political interest.

God save Nigeria!
