JUST IN: Akpabio Resigns As Senate Minority Leader

"This letter is to formally inform you of my resignation as the Senate Minority Leader with effect from August 4, 2018."

The Senator representing Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District, Godswill Akpabio, has resigned his position as the Senate Minority Leader.

In the letter, which was shared via his Twitter handle, @Senator Akpabio, he wrote: “This letter is to formally inform you of my resignation as the Senate Minority Leader with effect from August 4, 2018.

According to the letter, which was also dated August 4, 2018, and addressed to the Deputy Senate Minority Leader, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, Akpabio thanked the Senate and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for “the opportunity to lead the caucus in the last three years,” and urged them to accept the assurances of his “highest esteem".

Akpabio, who is  on the verge of defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), had previously met with President Muhammadu Buhari and a chieftain of the APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He is is billed to be welcomed to APC with a rally in Akwa Ibom.
