Questions Over Dickson's 'Transformation Of Bayelsa Healthcare' After Mum's Death In US

The development has invalidated claims by the Dickson-led administration of providing the best of medical facilities and building the best schools. His children also school abroad.

The demise of Governor Seriake Dickson’s mother, Mrs Gold Coast Dickson, in a hospital in the United States, on Thursday, has elicited concerns on the sincerity of public office holders.

The development has invalidated the claims made by the Dickson-led administration in Bayelsa State of providing the best of medical facilities and building the best schools.

Dickson’s children also school abroad.

While the governor had claimed that he had provided medical facilities to end the trend of seeking medical treatment abroad, his own mother had to be flown to Texas for treatment.

Gov Dickson’s mother was 72 years old.

In June, Dickson had showcased medical facilities he described as ‘world class’ and boasted that there was no need for anyone to travel abroad for medical tourism.

In a widely publicised event, the governor hosted former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who underwent medical checks in the facility.

Dickson’s wife Rachael, who was childless for more than 15 years after marriage, had her first delivery in a US hospital in 2017.

The Governor, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Francis Agbo, said the late Gold Coast died of cancer in the early hours of Thursday.

She died at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Centre, Houston, Texas, United States, where she had been receiving treatment.

Dickson expressed appreciation to the Centre, especially the team of medical professionals who did their best to save the life of his mother.
