One Killed, Two Party Agents Shot In Kogi By-election

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) fled the scene, alongside members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), for fear of being attacked.

Persons suspected to be political thugs, on Saturday, invaded the NEPA Polling Centre in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, to hijack ballot boxes, as voting was ongoing for the Lokoja/Kogi House of Representatives by-election.

According to THISDAY, the incident, which led to a fight between two factions, left one person dead.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) fled the scene, alongside members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Chief Press Secretary to the former Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Umar Ali, also confirmed that two agents of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) were shot by suspected political thugs.

According to the report by THISDAY, Ali, while speaking with newsmen on the election, said the names of the agents were still unknown, but they had been taken to an unknown hospital for treatment.

The agents were shot inside their vehicle along Federal Medical Centre road in Lokoja.
