Ondo APC Group Accuses Akeredolu Of Working Against Buhari’s Re-election Bid

“Before it is too late, we urge the national leadership of APC, led by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, to urgently wade into Ondo APC crisis, because we don't want Mr. President to lose in Ondo State," the group stated.

A pressure group within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has accused Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of “demarketing” President Muhammadu Buhari in the state.

The group, which identified itself as the ‘Ondo APC Mandate’, noted that Buhari’s second term bid may not find favour in Ondo State, if he failed to call Governor Akeredolu to order.

Femi Michael, convener of the group, who spoke to journalists in Akure, on Monday, added that the "big war" in the state chapter of the APC could affect Buhari’s chances in 2019.

Michael accused Akeredolu of creating opposition within the APC fold, known as the 'Aketi Group', which, according to him, was set up by the governor to shut out supporters of APC.

He alleged that Akeredolu had been mobilising against the direct primary for the forthcoming party primaries in the state, thereby disaffection among members, and urged the national leadership of the party to wade into the crisis rocking the Ondo APC.

He said: “It is evidently clear to all and sundry in Ondo APC that anybody, who is not a member of Aketi group within APC, is not a bona fide member of APC.

"This has gone a long way to create unnecessary opposition and division within the party in the state. As it is observed that virtually all the secretly-elected congress members in Ondo APC are all members of the so-called Aketi group.

"This Aketi group saga has further disintegrated the party in the state. In fact, if not for some party stalwarts who are close to the presidency, 75 per cent of our members would have defected to other political parties.

"However, it is crystal clear that 80 per cent of core APC members, that is, people from ACN, CPC, ANPP, are not recognised by the governor as APC members. He would rather embrace and accommodate core PDP members, who are now in Aketi group, in his government.

“Before it is too late, we urge the national leadership of APC, led by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, to urgently wade into Ondo APC crisis, because we don't want Mr. President to lose in Ondo State.

"All what has been caused by Governor Akeredolu in the state is demarketing the political future of both the APC and Mr. President. As it stands, Mr President cannot get 10 per cent of the votes from the Akeredolu-led government, if things continue like this.”

Responding to the group’s claims, Alex Kalejaye, APC Publicity Secretary in the state, denied the report of crisis within the party, noting that the governor had been working towards uniting members.

Stating that members of the party need to stay together and work for the success of the party in the coming elections, he said: "Our appeal, therefore, is for leaders and members of our party to be patient with the administration”.
