200 Local Divers Join Rescue Team As Flood Claims 14 Lives In Niger

At least 14 people lost their lives due to flooding in different parts of Niger State, on Saturday, just as no fewer than 200 local divers were engaged to assist in rescue efforts.

Alhaji Garba Salisu, Director of Relief, Niger State Emergency Management Agency, has said no fewer than 14 people lost their lives due to flooding in different parts of the state.

He revealed this to NAN, on Saturday in Minna, noting that at least 200 local divers had been engaged to assist in rescue efforts.

He said the local divers would complement the efforts of the state emergency agency, whenever the need arose.

He highlighted ways to tackle flooding, and appealed to residents to desist from building on waterways and stop indiscriminate dumping of refusee.

He also urged communities experiencing gully erosion to relocate whenever the threat of flood became high.
