The Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room has faulted the e-collation system of the Independent National Electoral Commission for the Osun governorship election, held on Saturday.

According to a statement read by Clement Nwankwo, the convener of the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room, INEC's electronic collation of results has been the subject of queries.

Addressing newsmen on Sunday in Osun, he said: "INEC's electronic collation of results has also come up for more queries. In the last several elections, INEC has stated that its e-collation system of results is at test phase.

"Situation Room calls on INEC to open its e-collation system to independent election observers, including Situation Room, as well as other stakeholders in the electoral process to create an understanding of this aspect of the election process and win support for its use.”

This, he said would eliminate the present suspicion that now clouds the use of e-election system, just as he also advised political parties to improve in their attitude to quality monitoring of elections.

"Political parties should train trusted party agents and improve their quality and ability to effectively monitor all stages of the electoral process," he said.
