September 24, 2018

Ibukun Ayobami, a resident of Osun State, told SaharaReporters that Oyedele was attacked with two of his aides, who had accompanied him to the ward. He said: "They were attacked by some thugs who I think are working for the All Progressives Congress (APC), because I know one of the thugs as a member of the APC.

Fatai Oyedele, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, was on Monday attacked by armed thugs suspected to be working for a political party.

Oyedele was attacked at Ward 05, Unit 17, Adewale street, Alekuwodo in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

The attack comes a day after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the Osun State governorship election inconclusive.

Oyedele was matcheted when he went to solicit support for the party ahead of Thursday's rerun election.

"The thugs vandalised the Toyota vehicle that they brought to where they came to canvass for votes. People had to run away from the area for their safety."

It was learnt that Oyedele, who sustained deep cuts, was taken away by officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The Police have yet to confirm the attack but party sources said Oyedele was receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
