'There Was No Election Today' — Adeleke Asks INEC To Cancel Rerun And Declare Him Winner

September 27, 2018

"The election is not free and fair. Osun State has been besieged. We are at war in Osun. They've not allowed my party people to vote; only the APC are allowed," he said. "No election in Osun today. I urge INEC to cancel the election and declare me the winner."

Ademola Adeleke, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Osun State governorship election, has declared Thursday's rerun null and void.

He described the activities that took place during the election as pointing to "war", noting that "Osun State has been besieged".

He accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of preventing his supporters from voting, and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to cancel the election.

Addressing journalists in Osun in Thursday, he said: "The election is not free and fair. Osun State has been besieged. We are at war in Osun. They've not allowed my party people to vote; only the APC are allowed.

"No election in Osun today. I urge INEC to cancel the election and declare me the winner."

Also speaking, Ebenezer Adedeji, a PDP member also said: "With all my years in politics, I've never experienced such a terrible election than the one we had today. We noticed the presence of some hoodlums and called the attention of policemen. There is a chieftain handling those guys in Orolu.

"There were a lot of attacks. Our people were not allowed to move and vote, except the APC people.

"All the stakeholders within and outside are watching — where you have an election that is as bad as this; when consciences are thrown away; people using power as if they are God. The opposition is put in an apex situation like this; we cannot even vote. We call for cancellation — outright cancellation — of the whole exercise.

"Adeleke was supposed to have been declared the winner. Even the last election on Saturday was not as bad as this. Why should they not cancel this? It must be cancelled. The  election is not free and fair."
