INEC Reveals Exact Number Of Nigerians Who Registered To Vote In 2019 Elections

84,004,084 Nigerians registered to vote in the forthcoming elections

Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has said 84,004,084 Nigerians registered to vote in the forthcoming elections.

He stated this at the quarterly consultative meeting of the commission with political parties held on Monday at the Tei Auditorium, The Electoral Institute in Abuja.

In his remarks during the presentation of the official register of voters to political parties, the INEC Chairman also spoke of plans by the commission to ensure smooth elections, just as he urged Nigerians yet to do so to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

He restated that PVCs would not be collected by proxy, and also noted that the smart card readers would be used during the elections.

“The smart card readers will be used for the 2019 elections. For clarity, I wish to stress that the function of the smart card readers during accreditation is to confirm, verify, and authenticate your voter,” he added.
