Police Service Commission Approves Appointment Of DIGs

This was part of the submissions at the 4th PSC plenary meeting held in Abuja on Monday and Tuesday.

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of eight Deputy Inspectors General of Police.
The commission also approved that the management team of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) be reconstituted based on representations by zone.

The restructuring of the management team is expected to take effect from January 28, 2019.

This was part of the submissions at the 4th PSC plenary meeting held in Abuja on Monday and Tuesday.

The meeting was presided over by Alhaji Musiliu Smith, a retired Inspector- General of Police and the PSC Chairman. 

Speaking on the deliberations at the meeting, Ikechukwu Ani, Spokesperson of the Commission, said the PSC gave approval to the appointment of eight Deputy Inspectors General of Police. Also one of the appointees, Usman Yakubu, who was also promoted is scheduled to proceed on terminal leave.

The management team based on zonal representation are Aminchi Samaila Baraya (North East), Usman Tilli Abubakar (North West), Abdulmajid Ali (North Central), Fredrick Taiwo Lakanu (South West), Godwin Nwobodo (South East), Anthony Ogbizi Michael (South South) and Yakubu Jibrin (North Central).

The Commission also approved the retirement of the seven former DIGs. 

In his remarks, Smith charged the new management team on showing their support to the new acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, just as he tasked them on dedication to duty.

“You must be dedicated and committed to ensuring the sustenance of our nation’s democracy. You must get prepared to confront the challenges that will come your way and also ensure that the forthcoming elections are free, fair and credible and citizens guaranteed their freedom to choose their leaders without hindrance," he said.
