Police Warn Commercial Motorcyclists Against Use Of Face Masks

Police had found out through meticulous intelligence gathering that some people who engage in commercial motorcycle business were using face masks to cover their identities in order to perpetrate dastardly acts.

The Ekiti State Police Command has issued a strict warning has been issued to commercial motorcycle riders, popularly called ‘okada riders’, against the use of face masks.

A statement by the Deputy Superintendent Caleb Ikechukwu, the command’s Public Relations Officer, issued on Wednesday, noted that the command had now declared zero tolerance on the use of face mask and covering of face by ‘okada’ operators in the state, warning that defaulters would face the wrath of the law.

According to the statement, the Police had found out through meticulous intelligence gathering that some people who engage in commercial motorcycle business were using face masks to cover their identities in order to perpetrate dastardly acts.

The statement read: “In order not to get caught, they employ the use of face mask to hide their identities. Owing to many complaints received from the general public as regarding the use of face mask by these ‘okada' riders to commit crime, the command warns that with effect from February 11, 2019, anyone caught violating this directive will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly."

However, the command approved the use of medically-approved nose masks and helmet.
