At the resumed hearing of the suit filed against on Wednesday, Aliyu Umar (SAN), the prosecution counsel, raised a motion in which he noted that since Onnoghen refused to show up in court, a warrant for his arrest should be issued.
The prosecution team in the trial of Walter Onnoghen, the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) has moved a motion for Onnoghen’s arrest.
At the resumed hearing of the suit filed against on Wednesday, Aliyu Umar (SAN), the prosecution counsel, raised a motion in which he noted that since Onnoghen refused to show up in court, a warrant for his arrest should be issued.
“Under the circumstances, it is my sad duty to address the Tribunal on Section 6(1) of the Practice Direction of the tribunal. I hereby humbly apply for a warrant of arrest against the defendant,” Umar said.
Responding, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), the counsel for the defendant objected to the motion, stating that he would list reasons for the CCT to refuse the prosecution’s application for a bench warrant for Onnoghen’s arrest.
