Ahead of Saturday's presidential election, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed Mrs. Christiana Abiakam to oversee the exercise in Ondo State.

Abiakam, who resumed official duty at the Ondo State NSCDC Command in Akure on Thursday, told newsmen that she was transferred from Bayelsa State.

SaharaReporters reported that Abiakam is taking over from Pedro Awili.

According to the new Ondo NSCDC boss, her purpose in the state is for the elections and, especially, to ensure that the exercise is free and fair.

"I just came from the Bayelsa State Command for election duties as a new commandant here in Ondo State, although I was posted yesterday from the headquarters,” she said.

Abiakam further disclosed that the swap was a strategy to ensure "no compromise of its officers" during the Saturday election.

She also promised to collaborate with other sister security agencies in the state in order to ensure credible and transparent elections that would be devoid of violence.

The new female Ondo NSCDC boss, however, warned the officers of the command to abide by the rules and laws that guide elections.

"I believed that the personnel have been warned adequately to ensure that they are not caught in electoral malpractice. Anybody found culpable regarding electoral offences will face the full wrath of the law," she added.
