Report About Jamming Networks Is False Alarm, Says Keyamo

February 15, 2019

“This is nothing but a figment of the imagination of the PDP, the obvious sponsors of the story. We have warned a few days ago of a series of fake news lined up by the PDP and Atiku’s Campaign team in the last days leading up to the elections. This is obviously one of them."

Festus Keyamo, spokesman of the All Progressives Council (APC) Campaign Council, says the report that the Nigerian government plans to jam networks during the presidential and National Assembly elections is false alarm.

In a statement dated February 14, 2019, he referred to a SaharaReporters report entitled ‘DOSSIER: Owned by Amaechi’s friend – Everything You Need to Know About HSLI, The Israeli Company Hired To Jam The Networks During Elections’, stating that there were no plans to jam network connections during the elections.

The report by SaharaReporters also disclosed that the company in charge of the proposed plan to jam networks during the elections works closely with Rotimi Amaechi, Nigeria's Minister of Transportation.

However, the APC said the claim was a figment of the imagination of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The statement read: “Whilst the story is full of half-truths and outright lies, the portion that concerns us at the Campaign Council is the allegation that the networks would be jammed on Saturday by the said Israeli company. The story claims that the Israeli company has links with the Hon. Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi and one of our Directors of Logistics in the Campaign Organisation, Alhaji Nasiru Danu (The Dana Armana Dutse).

“This is nothing but a figment of the imagination of the PDP, the obvious sponsors of the story. We have warned a few days ago of a series of fake news lined up by the PDP and Atiku’s Campaign team in the last days leading up to the elections. This is obviously one of them.

“The striking thing about all the false alarms raised by the PDP about this election is that they are obviously judging others by their own standards. This is a party notorious for all that was politically obscene and immoral when they were in power. From writing election results to ballot box-stuffing, ballot box-snatching and hooliganism during elections – Nigerians saw it all. So, this latest pontifications by the PDP about a plan to rig the election is obviously symptomatic of a man looking at the mirror.

“We re-iterate it for the umpteenth time that the PDP is not ready for peaceful elections. It is said that it is a person that cannot win a civil argument that resorts to a fight. PDP has lost all the arguments during this election and have also lost the demographic projections, so they are ready to destroy the process. For instance, the whole edifice of their campaign came crashing down two days ago when the NBS figures showed that our GDP is on a steady rise. For a Party that say they want to ‘get Nigeria working again’, it is now obvious that PDP Campaign theme has no meaning because Nigeria is already working as our latest NBS figures show. The significant thing is that Nigeria is now working for all and not just for a few.”
