BREAKING: Unknown Persons Burn Down INEC Office In Imo During Presidential Results Collation

"It happened while we were still collating the presidential results," the INEC official said.

The office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Isiala Mbano has been razed by fire.

Confirming the incident, Emmanuella Okpara, the INEC Public Relations Officer (PRO) in the area, said the office was razed down by unknown persons in the early hours of Monday.

"Yes, our office at Isiala Mbano was razed down by unknown persons in the early hours of today. In fact, it happened while we were still collating the presidential results here. The commission is yet to visit the office to ascertain the level of damage,” she said.

SaharaReporters earlier reported how Professor I. Ibeabuchi, the Returning Officer for Imo West Senatorial District and other staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Imo State were held hostage in Owerri, the Imo State capital, by Governor Rochas Okorocha and his thugs, with security operatives looking the other way.

An election observer at the district's collation centre in Orlu had told SaharaReporters that Okorocha and his thugs stormed the centre on Monday morning and threatened that neither Ibeabuchi nor other INEC staff would be allowed to leave the venue until they had declared the Governor winner.
