VIDEO: Illegal Thumbprinting Of Ballot Papers In Delta

February 26, 2019

Video obtained showed where electoral materials were being tampered with at Burutu LGA in unit 21, Ekoro, in Ayakoromo creeks.

Massive rigging appears to have characterised the presidential and National Assembly elections held in Delta State.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of rigging the elections in favour of the PDP in connivance with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

APC claims the areas affected are Warri South-West, Bomadi, Burutu and Patani Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Delta South senatorial district and Aviara, Ozoro, Owhelogbo, Ovrode, Ofagbe, Irri, and other communities in Isoko federal constituency.

George Timinimi, Director General of the Campaign Organisation of the APC governorship candidate, Great Ogboru, alleged that the PDP colluded with INEC officials to rig the elections.

Timinimi also alleged that result sheets were not available in the few polling units and wards in the four council areas, where elections took place.

In a petition addressed to Cyril Omorogbe, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), signed by Timinimi, the party said it would not accept the outcome of the election from the four councils.

Timinimi, a former Water Resources Commissioner during former Governor James Ibori’s administration, alleged that Ogbe-Ijoh ward 1 of unit 005, 006, 007 and 008 in Warri South West was “fraudulently rigged and results formulated in favour of James Manager, the PDP Delta South senatorial candidate and other PDP candidates”.

The petition read: “As you can see above in Warri South West local government area at Ogbe-Ijoh, in ward 1 of unit 005, 006, 007 and 008 in the riverine areas of the council, the elections were characterised by massive rigging in connivance with INEC officials, which also include thuggery, harassment and intimidation of voters and agents.

“It should also be noted that the above vices is what is inherent in Gbaramatu ward, Oporoza ward and Isaba wards of same local council and that of Burutu council, not excluding Bomadi council area and the riverine areas of Patani local government areas respectively.

“Meanwhile, in all of these units and wards where a few electoral materials were present, the result sheets for the units were missing completely. I therefore call on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to outright cancel the elections in the aforementioned local government area."

In his response to the allegation, James Manager, who contested against Emmanuel Uduaghan, the APC Delta South senatorial candidate, said he was too busy to make any comment.

“You know we are doing elections and we are very busy, so can we talk later?” he said.

When pressed further for his reactions, he said: "I can’t talk now. I am expecting a result from somewhere and we are collating.”

In Isoko federal constituency, the case is said to be the same as massive rigging allegedly marred the House of Representatives election as supporters of PDP were said to have been seen hijacking, snatching and stuffing ballot boxes in PDP strongholds across Isoko while original result sheets for the House of Representatives election were not seen in Olomoro, Ozoro, Owhelogbo, and other communities.

APC in Isoko nation and the campaign organization of Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, the APC House of Representatives candidate for Isoko federal constituency, has challenged the results which declared Leo Ogor, candidate of the PDP, as the winner with 34,000 votes against Thomas, who polled 23,553 votes.

As such, APC has called for outright cancellation of the election.

Edwin Asikadi of the Federal College of Education Technical (FCET) Asaba, the Returning Officer, announced the results for the House of Representatives election in Oleh, on Monday.

Videos obtained, however, showed where electoral materials were being tampered with at Burutu LGA in unit 21, Ekoro, in Ayakoromo creeks, very close to late John Togo's militant camp during the Niger Delta agitation.
