Question: Did Pius Adesanmi Knew He Would Die?

It is no longer news that Nigeria has just suffered a great loss in the death of one of her foremost citizens, Pius Adesanmi, a professor of English at Carleton University.

The director of the African Institute at the Canadian University was always active across social media platforms. But unlike satirical piece the professor of English is known for, Adesanmi post a scriptural verse that suggests an inner thought of an eminent danger.

Adesanmi’s last post on his Facebook page was a quote from Psalm 139, speaking to the transiency of life and the ever steadfast “hand” of God to “lead” and “hold”.

“If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me,” verse 9-10.

Many Nigerians have reacted this post, asking if it was the professor’s hint to his death.

Anima Baruwa, one of his friends on the social media platform, asked if it was the “way of saying goodbye to his over 42 followers on Facebook.

“This write-up comes across as a goodbye! Did he know he was going? Unbelievable,” another Facebook user curiously, Ukay Gold, asked.

Ola Mi asked if the post was a premonition. Unfortunately, no one would be able to answer the question.

In July of last year, the professor was involved in a ghastly auto crash that had him hospitalized for over two months.

“It was a miracle I survived. I nearly bled to death. No help for over four hours,” he said while recovering from the accident that killed his driver.
