Students Jittery Over Cultist Attack Says Lives At Risk

Students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife has expressed fear over the cultist attack which erupted on Friday, May 3rd 2019.

Speaking with a student, who pleades under anonymity as a result of the sensitivity of the issue, he said " the fight erupted during the entertainment show when Omoniyi Temidayo, a famous rapper nicknamed ‘Zlatan Ibile’ came to perform". 

Also speaking with another student, Ibrahim Azeez, who said the clash erupted after the performance of the youngster when the group caused commotion at a particular section of the hall.

In his words, he said "The group slapped, beat and harassed some students who challenged them. The members, thereafter, stampede the stage to cause a chaos"

A student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, identified as AY JOKS, was severely injured in the attack.

Oduduwa University (OUI)  shares the same Ile-Ife community with OAU.

The students, said to be members of the Alora confraternity, a cult group associated with the display of yellow paraphernalia, stormed a late night music show at amphitheatre, where attendees anticipated the performance of Omoniyi Temidayo, a famous rapper nicknamed ‘Zlatan Ibile’.

Speaking with the Public Relations Officer of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Mr Olanrewaju Abiodun, he said" the University at large has zero tolerance for cultism and we won't condone anything from anyone. We will deal with anybody caught in the act either young, old, female or male". 

"We have handed the culprits over to the Nigeria Police Force and we have told the appropriate Security Agencies. We implore all students not to take law into their hands but leave everything to the hands of the School management" he said

"Students should go about their normal activities. Their can be threats but it depends on how the threats is been handled. Everything is under control" he added

Speaking with the Police Spokesperson, Osogbo Mrs Folashade Odoro who said she was yet to be briefed about this issue

Attempt to reach the Division of Students Affairs, Oduduwa University proved abortive as his lines weren't reachable as at the time of filing this report
