Dr. Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, Emir of Katsina, has told Audu Ogbeh, Nigerian Minister of Agriculture, that agricultural projects in the Northern part of the country cannot be successful.

Usman said this when the minister and Godwin Emefiele, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor visited the state to flag-off the distribution of cotton seeds and inputs to 100,000 cotton farmers for 2019 planting season in Katsina.

The Emir noted that the projects would not be successful if the government fails to tackle insecurity and curb the increasing the rate of kidnapping in the North.

He also claimed that some politicians in the country are sponsoring kidnapping in the country.

“The government must ensure it put all measures in place to stop the killings. There are politicians who are perpetrating these killings and they are within the government. What will you gain from kidnapping and killing people?” The monarch asked.

He added, “Many farmers and herdsmen have abandoned their farms; so, minister please tell the president that we need security in this country.

“All these projects you are initiating will not be sustainable if there is no security. So, for me, security is paramount than any other project for now.

“I have not seen a country like this. How do we live like this when nobody is safe?”

He stated that Northerners are living like animals in fear of bandits and terrorist groups.

The Emir urged the government to deploy more military personnel to the North adding that the local vigilante groups do not have the resources to fight the bandits.
