The Coalition of Tai Solarin College of Education Staff (COTAS) has criticized Ibikunle Amosun, Governor of Ogun State and Dr Lukman Adeola Kiadese, Provost of the institution, for not paying them salary and allowances for 54 months.

The Staff also accused the management of the institution for invading the school with soldiers who harassed staff of the school.

Speaking with SaharaTV, Comrade Daniel Aborisade, President of COTAS, disclosed that the Provost had been withholding promotion letter of staff.

He also accused the Provost of mismanaging and embezzling Internally Generated Revenue of the institution.

“Staff has not received promotion letter up to date. We had our last promotion in 2016/2017 and the approval has been given to the provost. The provost is yet to release it, with the reason best known to him,” he said

He added, “We had a meeting in February 2019, he told us the state government has approved promotion from 2015 to 2017 but he refused to gave the letters to the staff.

“The school generated close to N400million as IGR in two years and when asked what he has been able to do with it, he could not account for it. Aside from this, the Provost has not paid our cooperative for over seven months, he is holding on to these and we don’t know why he is doing that.”

Speaking on the hardship staff of the institution is facing, Hembah Oluwatobi, Secretary of COTAS, said not less than 49 staff has died due to the lack of fund to access health care.

“49 staff have died due to the financial constraint imposed on them by the state government. Some of them could not pay for hospital bill and left to die at home. We die like poultry chicken every now and then.

“Many staff are now homeless, we sent our kids to live with our family members and children are now being enrolled in public schools due to lack of money.

“Some had to sell their cars to sustain their families. Staff of Tai Solarin College of Education are not different from beggars,” Oluwatobi lamented.

Aborisade stated that the Provost brought soldiers into the school to beat staff for demanding that their monies are released.

The staff said that all pleas to Governor Amosun to ensure their salaries and other allowances are paid have been falling on deaf ears with the Provost also aiding the Governor not to pay the staff of the institution.

“We have done everything humanly possible and were at the Ogun State House of Assembly to let the Ogun State Government know the predicament we are but every effort has been rebuffed.”

Aborisade urged the “government to immediately begin process to pay the 54 months salary without delay and promotion of staff should be effected up till date with all monies paid including pension.”

He added that a visitation panel to be set up to look at the financial misappropriation happening in the institution.
