Hadi Sirika, Minister of State for Aviation, has summoned striking members of aviation union to a meeting over the ongoing strike action by the union.

The union members under the aegis of National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP) and the National Association of Air Transport Pilots and Employees (NAAPE) had picketed the Aviation House headquarters of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), preventing workers from gaining access into the premises.

The union members are also demanding that a change in the organogram of NCAA as the strike action was effective in all NCAA regional offices in Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt.

Francis Akinjole, Deputy General Secretary of ATSSSAN, said the protest became necessary after the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum issued for NCAA to resolve the issue.

He added that the best thing to do is to carry out the strike action to drive home their demands.

However, Sam Adurogboye, spokesman of the NCAA, in a statement said the union leaders did not go along with the laid down procedures before an industrial action would take place.

He also said the issues raised were beyond the powers of the authority while adding that the Aviation Minister would meet with the union leaders to resolve the issues.

“The regulatory authority will work with the supervising ministry to ensure that all issues are properly addressed to the satisfaction of all parties.”

Adurogboye noted that NCAA would ensure that the meeting between the minister and the unions would provide amicable resolution.
