President Muhammadu Buhari still has a lot to do and the earlier he does the right things, the better, says Senator Shehu Sani.

The major challenges the president should devote more time and energy on, according to Sani, are the economy and the rising level of insecurity in Nigeria.

Sani pointed out that attending town hall meetings had not helped the presidency, calling for more pragmatic approaches.

Appearing as a guest on Channels TV, the former lawmaker said: “From the report which we have heard from the killings still going on, even the personnel of the army were even affected.

“We can still say that President Muhammadu Buhari has two major challenges before him – the economy and security.

“The President still has a lot to do. The earlier he does it, the better. Going for town halls, the meeting has not provided the right result,” he said.

When asked if the killings in the country as claimed by Prof. Wole Soyinka are beyond the Buhari government’s capacity to handle, Sani said he believed the security forces can contain them.

He, however, urged the federal government to collaborate with Cameroon, Niger, and Chad.

Sani stated, “These are things that can still be tackled because we are not isolated from the problem as a nation. Our neighbours too – Niger, Chad and Cameroon Republic are also facing the same problem.”
