Five out of the six active branches of the University of Lagos Alumni Association have disassociated themselves from certain individuals going claiming to be members of the national executive of the association.

The five branches of the alumni association on Tuesday called on members of the public to disregard the members “purportedly” carrying out activities on behalf of the national body of the association.

In a joint press statement obtained by SaharaReporters, the association recalled that it had earlier on July 25, 2018, published in a national newspaper a press release distancing itself from the emergence of these individuals.

The statement which was signed respectively by Chairmen of Ogun State, Prof. A.A.A. Agboola; Oyo State, Dr. Bisi, Akin-Alabi; Delta State, Chief Amos Okoro; FCT, Mr. Tijani Mohammed and Akwa Ibom branch, Senator Bob Effiong said the new press release became necessary so as to serve as a reminder to the general public.

“We wish to state emphatically that as alumni of this prestigious University of Lagos (the University of first choice and the pride of the nation), we will never do anything to de-brand or bring to disrepute the Alumni Association or indeed our alma mater not least because the Institution belongs to all of us, not just 'a few'.

“Furthermore, as responsible and law-abiding citizens, given that the matter is still in court, we are constrained of what to say or disclose at this point. However, at the appropriate time, we will update the general public and all concerned on any development(s) in relation to this matter,” the statement said.
