Ikeokwu said the suspect, who is from Achara in Obowo Local Government Area of the state, confessed to the crime after he was arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
The police in Imo State have arrested a 60-year-old man named Onyekwere Umunna for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl.
Public Relations Officer of the Command, Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday.
Ikeokwu said the suspect, who is from Achara in Obowo Local Government Area of the state, confessed to the crime after he was arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
He said that the suspect would be prosecuted after investigation into the matter is concluded.
The statement read, “On August 6, 2019, at about 5:45pm, operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Akokwa annex, while responding to a distress call, arrested one Onyekwere Umunna, a 60-year-old man who was alleged to have defiled a minor.
“The suspect has however confessed to the crime, while the victim has been taken to the hospital for medical examination and treatment.”
