Bail: I'm Going Home Today, Says Atiku's Lawyer

Uyiekpen Giwa-Osagie, lawyer to former Vice President of Nigeria and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party during the 2019 general elections, Atiku Abubakar, could not contain his joy on Thursday after he was granted bail by the Federal High in Ikoyi, Lagos.

Justice Nicholas Oweibo granted Giwa-Osagie and his brother, Erhunse, bail in the sum of N20m.

Immediately he left the courtroom and sighted his wife and other relatives, an excited Giwa-Osagie screamed, “I am going home today".

The lawyer was arrested on August 9, 2019 and has been in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on charges of money laundering.[story_link align="left"]72644[/story_link]

The anti-graft agency said the two brothers connived to launder the sun of $2m to which they pleaded not guilty. 

The case had been adjourned to October 8 for commencement of trial.
