Pastor Ize-Iyamu Unsure Of Candidacy, Keeps Lawsuit Against APC At Federal High Court In Benin

Afraid that the 'enemies' of Oshiomhole at the national and local level in Edo where the APC remain factionalised could initiate moves to nullify the outcome of the primary that has produced him as the party's governorship candidate for the state, Ize-Iyamu filed an application with Suit No. FHC/B/CS/61/2020 at the Federal High in Benin last week, asking the court to compel INEC to accept him as the party’s candidate for the September 19 governorship election in Edo.

Despite coasting home to victory during last week's governorship primary election of the Edo State All Progressives Congress, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu may still not be totally sure of flying the party's flag during the governorship election proper on September 19, 2020 as the party's leadership was yet to submit his name to the Independent National Electoral Commission as its candidate for the exercise.

Following the unceremonious removal of his biggest backer in the party, Adams Oshiomhole as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress and the National Working Committee headed by the former Edo governor, Ize-Iyamu's position as the party's candidate in the state came under severe threat especially because the newly inaugurated Caretaker Committee headed by Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni, could decide to upturn some of the key decisions taken by Oshiomhole's administration including the Edo APC primary election.

The crisis between Oshiomhole and incumbent governor of Edo, Godwin Obaseki, left more than a few casualties in its wake as it led to the exit of both men from the party with the later now aligning with the Peoples Democratic Party where he has since secured the platform's ticket to contest the governorship election in September.

During the maiden sitting of the court on the matter last Friday, Ize-Iyamu's prayer was not answered while the matter was adjourned until June 29, 2020 (today) for further deliberation.

SaharaReporters gathered that Monday's court session degenerated into almost a fracas between lawyers representing Ize-Iyamu and the APC, forcing the matter to be adjourned to a latter date for deliberation.

As things stand and from all indications, Ize-Iyamu may have a huge task ahead of him flying the APC's flag during September's governorship election in Edo as his suit against the party is said to have angered top members of the party trying to weather one of its toughest crisis since taking over at the federal
