UPDATE: Tension In Ondo Assembly As Lawmakers Serve Deputy Governor Impeachment Notice

In a document seen by SaharaReporters, the Assembly members accused Ajayi of gross misconduct.

The atmosphere in the Ondo State House of Assembly complex is now tensed as members served impeachment notice on the deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi.

Fourteen members of the Assembly signed the impeachment notice on Tuesday afternoon.

This came as nine members disassociated themselves from the process.

In a document seen by SaharaReporters, the Assembly members accused Ajayi of gross misconduct. 

Ajayi is accused of abuse of office, financial recklessness, abandonment of office and petition for defecting to the Peoples Democratic Party.

The motion for serving the deputy governor the impeachment notice was read by the Assembly Clerk, Mr Bode Adeyelu, during plenary on Tuesday. 

Bamidele Oleyelogun, Speaker of the Assembly, said he received the allegations against the deputy governor but failed to mention the sources of the allegations at the plenary.
