There are reports he has "some brain activity" and is in a "vegetative state" and doctors have cautioned he may not make it.

The crowd that attended the vigil, joined in prayers, chanted "DMX!" and crossed their arms in the shape of an X. Many were seen crying while a recording of the rapper was played.

The musician's spokesperson, however, said he is fast recuperating.

"I can confirm that [DMX] has been taken off life support and is now breathing on his own," the spokesperson told Yahoo Entertainment in an email on Saturday.

"Still not out of the woods yet." The rep added, "I'm unaware of what caused his heart attack."
