The National Working Committee of the African Action Congress (AAC) has denied conducting a recent election in Abuja from which Obi Sylvester Chukwudozie emerged as the party's candidate for the upcoming Anambra governorship election.
The party disclosed this in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Femi Adeyeye, on Monday.
AAC noted that the people who converged and held the primary election are not members of the party, adding that a press release issued as regards this was not from the party's spokesman.
It also alleged that the election was conducted by a former National Secretary of the Party, Leonard Nzenwa who was expelled after he was indicted with some crimes.
The statement from the AAC read, “The attention of the National Working Committee of the African Action Congress [AAC] has been drawn to a circulated press release dated 2nd July 2021 of a purported primary election conducted by a group of persons in Abuja, from which one Obi Sylvester Chukwudozie reportedly emerged as AAC’s gubernatorial candidate for the November 2021 gubernatorial elections in Anambra State.
”The African Action Congress wishes to inform the general public that it did not conduct any such primary election either in Abuja or anywhere else in Nigeria. The individuals who participated in the said primary elections are not members of the African Action Congress.
“It is also important to inform the public that one Sylvester Cletus who supposedly issued the misleading statement as 'publicity secretary' is not a member of the AAC let alone being its spokesperson.
”Our investigation revealed that the sham called 'primary election' was arranged by AAC’s former National Secretary Leonard Nzenwa who was expelled from the party after given fair hearing as far back as August 2019, over weighty offences of fraud, misappropriation of party funds and anti-party activities- offences that are antithetical to the stance and colouration of the most organized opposition party in the country- the AAC.
“AAC urges the public to disregard in totality the activities of the usurper with his goons who has been acting in frustration since his lawful expulsion from the party.
”By this disclaimer, the leaderships of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Anambra State Chapter of the Commission are also put on notice and advised for the umpteenth time to desist from their unwholesome meddlesomeness in the affairs of the party.”
