Ibrahim Salami, the Beninese lawyer to Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Igboho, has narrated that the Department of State Services operatives injured Igboho on the leg during the July 1 invasion of his Ibadan, Oyo State residence.
Salami noted that Igboho therefore could not stand during his court trials but was made to sit due to the impact of the injuries.
The lawyer stated these in an interview on Tuesday, while confirming that Igboho was being investigated for an alleged crime in Benin Republic and no longer about extradition to Nigeria.
Salami said, “There is no verdict yet; he was put in prison pending the time the investigation is ongoing. I implore all Yoruba to be patient and continually show their support for Igboho so he can be freed.
“When the DSS tried to attack Igboho in his house in Nigeria, and he escaped, he got injured. It was not easy for him to stand. As of yesterday, he couldn't stand before the judge; we gave him a chair. So, there is need for them to allow him go to Germany so he can get medical care. So, we are trying our best to help him get that.
“As lawyers, our job is not easy because the way we started the case is not what is currently obtainable. We started the case fighting against his extradition to Nigeria but now, it is Sunday Igboho versus Benin Republic.
“We are now on this, and God will help us. Let Yoruba be careful and show their support in prayers.”
SaharaReporters had reported that the Benin Republic police two Mondays ago arrested Igboho at Cardinal Bernardin International Airport in Cotonou, while trying to fly from the country to Germany.
The Department of State Services (DSS) had on July 1 raided the residence of the activist in Ibadan, Oyo state.
Igboho had planned a ”Yoruba Nation Rally” in Lagos two days before the raid.
The DSS raided the residence, killing two people and arresting 12 aides but Igboho escaped.
The agency alleged that Igboho was stockpiling weapons, and subsequently declared him wanted.
