The state Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko explained that on July 9, 2021, Mohammed placed a call across to one Taofeek Olaide.

The CP explained that the deceased had gone to Kara market in the Akinyele area of Ibadan.

The police boss said Olaide and one Yusuf Taiwo had boarded a motorcycle with the deceased to sort out some business transactions on cows.

They later left for a supposed ranch at Onidundun, where the cows were expected to be purchased.

“They were greeted with gunshots where Yusuf Taiwo was kidnapped but his partner, Taofeek Olaide, managed to escape," Onadeko said.

She further said policemen from the Moniya Division and the ambush team of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad combed the vicinity after a report was made.

The operation led to Taiwo’s rescue. He had sustained a gunshot injury on the thigh during the abductors’ shooting.

While the criminals took to their heels to evade arrest, they stumbled upon some youths from Onidundun village and they fired gunshots.

Mohammed was also hit and was confirmed dead at the hospital.

Onadeko said police investigation into the case was ongoing and the suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.
